The natural richness of Castrillo de la Vega and its modern wine cellars are its best introduction. The groves of the River Duero’s bank show great density and diversity. It is an ideal habitat for birds and it is easy to come across the Grey Heron, Night Heron, Little Egret, Mallard and Eurasian Coot.
But this natural heritage is also complemented by the high historic value of its buildings; the church of Santiago Apóstol at the forefront, being the only one together with the Virgen de la Vega chapel, in a very good state of conservation.
Of the Renaissance castle, there only remains the ruins of the northern wall and of a round turret. The same applies to the Puente del Roque bridge and the Torre del Monte tower.
The wine cellars that are typical of the area also highly valued and the important modern wineries follow this tradition: Abadía de Acón Winery, Conde – Neo Winery (where the actor Jason Priestly has recently started to develop his own wine) and Cooperativa San Roque de la Encina Winery (one can visit the winery in order to encounter its distinctive brands of Designation of Origin (D.O.) Ribera del Duero.
