Extremely close to Aranda de Duero, built on a highpoint in Gumiel de Izán. Standing above a set of 18th century steps, its facade is outstanding.
Located in the main square of Gumiel de Izán, it is a Spanish Historic Monument, recognised as a Cultural Heritage Building since 8th August 1962.
In Gothic style, added to an earlier church retaining the north pórtico. The additional facade and staircase are Baroque.
Inside, there is a remarkable late-gothic high altar, from 16th century, with various scenes depicting the lives of Jesus and Virgin Mary. King David with Harp was exhibited in “Las Edades de Hombre” exhibition and the Romanesque Seated Virgin was exhibited in Brussels in 1996.
A museum in the sacristy displays pieces of Romanesque period. In the Virgen del Rosario chapel is a baptismal Font from the Ermita de Santa Marina de Revilla. There is also Recumbent Christ from the Castilla school period.
